Food First regularly publishes the work of scholars and activists who are interested in reaching a broader audience. As one of the country’s foremost food think tanks, with four decades of groundbreaking popular publications, publishing with Food First can offer visibility and legitimacy. Food First has also remained a uniquely autonomous space for critical voices, unfettered by corporate or government funding restraints.
If you are interested in contributing writing to Food First, please begin by familiarizing yourself with our mission, issue areas and publication types. We occasionally publish work by new contributing authors addressing timely and cutting-edge food and development issues, particularly those that amplify the voices of communities in resistance; social movements; farmers and peasants; women; youth; people of color; and grassroots projects building food sovereignty from the ground up.
We prefer that unknown contributors begin by submitting a 600-800 word blog for consideration, after which we may consider a longer-form submission for publication as a Backgrounder, Policy Brief, Development Report or Book. Please familiarize yourself with Food First’s writing style. If you believe that your work is the right fit for Food First, please contact us at email@example.com with a brief introductory note, resume and writing sample.
