Jun Borras

Saturnino “Jun” M. Borras Jr. is Associate Professor of Agrarian, Food and Environmental Studies at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague, Netherlands and Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Peasant Studies. Jun is a political activist and academic who has been deeply involved in rural social movements in the Philippines and internationally since the early 1980s. Jun was part of the core organizing team that established the international peasant movement La Vía Campesina and has written extensively on land issues and agrarian movements. Jun is also Adjunct Professor at China Agricultural University, Beijing; Fellow at the Transnational Institute (TNI); Coordinator of the Initiatives in Critical Agrarian Studies (ICAS); and co-coordinator of the Land Deal Politics Initiative (LDPI)—a global network of researchers working on the issue of land grabbing. His publications include the co-edited book Transnational Agrarian Movements Confronting Globalization with Marc Edelman and Cristobal Kay; and The Politics of Biofuels, Land and Agrarian Change with Philip McMichael and Ian Scoones.
