Food First (FF) is inviting Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to share the real-world stories unfolding in their communities, especially where government actions—or inaction—shape daily life. Whether you’re a farmer, organizer, artist, seasoned journalist, or creative writer, your voice matters. We welcome short-form written pieces or multimedia submissions that spotlight both local challenges and the resilience emerging in response to today’s shifting policies.
By sharing your insights through our monthly Food Sovereignty Digest—and across our website and social media—you can help shape broader conversations around social justice and food systems. This is a volunteer opportunity, but there’s potential for future paid collaborations as we continue building our research and advocacy work. You’ll reach a network of engaged readers, connect with fellow BIPOC voices, and possibly influence policy and movement strategies rooted in community-driven solutions.
Ready to Submit?
1. Fill out our Airtable form
2. Attach your essay, op-ed, case study, photo/video essay, or journalistic piece.
Include any relevant background or a brief bio that helps our readers understand your perspective.
3. Provide your social media handles so we can tag and celebrate your work.
4. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We’ll be in touch if we plan to feature your piece.
Help us amplify BIPOC perspectives and grassroots efforts: your experiences can spark change, inspire action, and highlight the power growing at the root level. If you have a story to tell, we want to hear it! Questions? Contact Camila Bernal, Senior Program Officer at camila@foodfirst.org.
